Jalandhar: Today, 21 organizations across the country have called for Bharat Bandh. The call was given by The Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti against the Supreme Court’s decision to exclude the “creamy layer” from SC/ST quota which has been supported by various groups including Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Some effect is being witnessed in states like Bihar as Police lathi-charge people protesting against SC’s decision in Patna. A mixed response has been witnessed in Jharkhand while some effect is being witnessed in Rajasthan where schools and colleges are closed and internet services are suspended.
But as of now no major effect is being witnessed in Punjab. Here, except BSP no other organization has come up in support of Bandh call. Here in Jalandhar BSP workers have taken out a peaceful protest march in Boota Mandi and in Ludhiana a protest was held outside DC office.
Apart from these events, no effect is being witnessed. The schools both private and government are open today. Moreover, no effect of bandh is being witnessed in the markets as well. Shops are open like a normal day.
So, the call of Bharat Bandh was given by the Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and in view of the Bharat Bandh decision, the government had already given instructions to take necessary steps to maintain law and order during the demonstration.
In Punjab only BSP take out its protest march against the Supreme Court’s decision in Boota Mandi area of Jalandhar and stage dharna at Pathankot Bypass Jalandhar. But here is surprisingly some of SC organization support the supreme court decision. SC organization who support the supreme court decision distribute sweets at different area of Jalandhar City. They told the decision of Top Court is in the favour of SC community. Reservation is not the right of a particular class but all the people which are belongs to SC have the right.
Let us tell you that the Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has taken the decision of Bharat Bandh. In view of the Bharat Bandh decision, the government has given instructions to take necessary steps to maintain law and order during the demonstration. In fact, the organizations object to the fact that the court said that the benefit of reservation should go to the most needy people. The organizations opposed this decision and said that this will harm the principles of reservation.
