Manipur: Schools and colleges in six districts of Manipur, including Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Jiribam, have reopened after a two-week closure. The closure was imposed due to violence in the region, which began on November 16 following the discovery of six bodies in Jiribam. Despite a slight dip in attendance, it is expected to normalize in the coming days.
Curfew restrictions were eased to allow students to attend classes, and the Home Department relaxed curfew hours for five hours on Friday. However, public gatherings and rallies still require prior approval.
The Education Department had initially planned to reopen on November 25, but the decision was later postponed. A curfew was enforced after widespread violence, including attacks on political leaders’ properties, and a mobile internet blackout was imposed across nine districts, lasting until November 29.
The curfew has now been relaxed to aid the resumption of educational activities and allow residents to purchase essentials. Despite the unrest, no new violent incidents have been reported since November 18.
