Snowfall begins on high mountains of Himachal; temperature drops

Shimla: Snowfall has been occurring in the high altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh since last night. Shimla witnessed hailstorm at night and at 9 am light snow fell in the surrounding areas including the Ridge. However, the snowfall stopped after two to three minutes. Tourist destination Manali has received good snowfall for the second time within a week. This has made the tourists happy.

It has been raining intermittently in other areas of the state since last night. Many areas of Kangra, Sujanpur, Hamirpur, Shimla, Mandi received good rain at night. More than half a feet of fresh snowfall has occurred in many areas of Lahaul Spiti and Chamba.

Forecast of rain and snowfall in these districts today

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a forecast of rain and snowfall in Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts even today. The weather will remain clear in other districts.

Western disturbance will weaken from tomorrow and the weather will become clear across the state in the next three-four days. After rain and snowfall, cold like December-January has returned to the mountains even in March. The average maximum temperature of the state has fallen by -6.3 degrees below normal, while during the last 24 hours the maximum temperature has decreased by 5.5 degrees.

Chamba’s temperature dropped 14 degrees below normal

The temperature of Chamba has dropped the most. The maximum temperature of Chamba has dropped to 11.4 degrees Celsius after dropping 14 degrees below normal. The maximum temperature of Bhuntar has also dropped to 10.5 degrees after dropping 10.4 degrees below normal and the temperature of Mandi has dropped to 114.7 degrees Celsius after dropping 10.9 degrees. The temperature of other cities has also dropped in a similar manner.

Avalanche fall warning

Meanwhile, an avalanche alert has been issued in Chamba and Lahaul Spiti districts. These districts have received heavy snowfall in the past week. This has led to incidents of avalanches. In view of this, people have been asked to be cautious.

During the last 3 days, 9 incidents of avalanches have occurred in Lahaul Spiti, Chamba and Kinnaur districts.
