Takhat Patna Sahib Jathedar Demands Transparent Inquiry Before Any Decision on Harpreet Singh

Punjab: The Takhat Patna Sahib Jathedar on Sunday demands a transparent investigation on Harpreet Singh case.

In a letter available with the Savera times date 16-02-2025 Jathedar Singh Sahib warns against any leniency in the case. The letter, sent to Sri Akal Takhat Sahib ji, to ensure a fair and thorough investigation, emphasizing that sparing the accused could damage the institution’s credibility.

The letter highlights that an inquiry into Harpreet Singh lasted more than 50 days, during which the committee submitted a detailed report to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The leaders warned that ignoring the findings would stain the reputation of the Akal Takht and the Jathedar himself.

Adding to the controversy, the Jathedar had reportedly stated that since Harpreet Singh appeared before the Panj Pyare Sahibs, further investigation was unnecessary. However, the Panj Pyare later refuted this claim, asserting that Harpreet Singh never appeared before them but instead summoned them elsewhere, violating protocol.

The letter also raises concerns about the unity of the Sikh Panth. It alleges that while one faction of the Akali Dal disbanded and reorganized in compliance with an earlier directive, a seven-member committee is unfairly targeting them while ignoring other groups that have not followed suit.
