Three killed, seven injured in hotel fire in Thailand

Bangkok: A fire at a hotel in Bangkok has resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left seven others injured, according to the local fire department. The incident occurred around 9:21 p.m. local time (1421 GMT) on Sunday in a six-story hotel located near the popular Khao San Road, known for its backpacker scene.

The blaze originated from a room on the fifth floor, claiming the life of a female tourist immediately. Two male tourists later succumbed to their injuries in different hospitals. Among the injured, there are two Thai men and five foreign nationals, as reported by local authorities.

In response to the incident, the hotel has been closed for a security inspection, and an investigation into the fire’s cause is currently underway. At the time of the fire, there were 75 guests staying at the hotel.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt highlighted the need for increased safety measures, especially with New Year’s Eve celebrations approaching, which will include fireworks and other festivities throughout the city.

This incident follows a recent bomb explosion at a festival in Tak province on December 14, which killed three people and injured 39 others. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed her condolences on social media, urging police and security forces to investigate the incident thoroughly and enhance security for upcoming events.

Earlier this year, on January 17, a fireworks factory explosion in central Thailand resulted in at least 17 fatalities. Local rescuers responded to the fire, which ultimately destroyed the factory and scattered debris over a wide area. Witnesses reported that more than 20 employees were present at the factory during the explosion.
