Three Die in Bihar After Suspected Consumption of Illicit Alcohol; Police Investigate

Patna: In a tragic incident in Siwan district, Bihar, three individuals have died shortly after being hospitalized, with authorities suspecting spurious alcohol consumption. According to Ajit Kumar Singh, Station House Officer of Lakri Nabiganj police station, a definitive cause of death will await postmortem results. The victims, all from Lakri Nabiganj village, were admitted to Sadar Hospital on Thursday evening.

The police received reports about the situation on Friday morning and promptly sent a team to the hospital for further inquiries. The alarming nature of the deaths has raised concerns among the local population, leading to rumors about the presence of illicit alcohol in the area.

This incident echoes a similar tragedy in October, where 62 fatalities were linked to tainted alcohol in Siwan and Gopalganj, though state police reported 37 confirmed deaths. Following the earlier incidents, political leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav, have criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for inadequate enforcement of the state’s liquor ban, alleging that some government officials are complicit with illegal alcohol trade.
