Trump taunts Biden over pardoning his son; raises case of imprisoned supporters

New York: President-elect Donald Trump has mocked President Joe Biden over his recent decision to pardon his son Hunter, questioning whether this pardon extends to those of his supporters who are serving prison sentences for their involvement in the January 6 riots. In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the pardon as a “miscarriage of justice” and asked if it included the “J-6 hostages” who have been imprisoned for years.

Following the 2020 election, Trump held a rally and repeated his claim that the election was “stolen,” leading some of his supporters to invade the Capitol as Congress was certifying Biden’s victory. Trump has called those convicted for their roles in the riots “political prisoners” and has promised to pardon them if he returns to office.

Biden recently pardoned Hunter, who faced charges of gun violations and tax evasion, expressing hope to put the family’s legal troubles behind them. Biden characterized the charges against Hunter as politically motivated, suggesting they were instigated by congressional opponents.

Both Biden and Trump have claimed selective prosecution in their cases, pointing to political bias in the legal process. Before the pardon announcement, Representative Jamie Raskin cited Trump’s claims in defense of Hunter.

Trump’s spokesperson criticized the legal actions against the former president, calling them politically driven. Meanwhile, other Republican figures have condemned Biden’s pardon, with Senator John Barrasso claiming it highlights a “two-tier system of justice.” Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene accused Biden of admitting Hunter’s criminality through the pardon.

As Hunter Biden was implicated in Trump’s first impeachment related to Ukraine, this family saga continues to polarize public opinion. Biden remarked, “I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision” regarding his son.
