Two members of Krishan Gang arrested for murder of SAD Councillor Harjinder Singh in Amritsar: Police

Amritsar: Amritsar Police have arrested two members of the notorious Krishan gang in connection with the murder of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillor Harjinder Singh, who was shot dead in the Chehertha area on Sunday afternoon. Police said the councillor was gunned down around 3:15 PM by assailants from a rival group.

During the investigation, police identified three persons involved in the attack and managed to apprehend two of them. Two pistols used in the crime were recovered from the arrested individuals. A manhunt is underway to nab the third accused.

Speaking with the media, Punjab Police Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Harpal Singh Randhawa said that, according to the family, around 5-6 boys, against whom Singh had earlier complained, are involved in the incident.

“Bike-borne miscreants shot him. According to the family, 5-6 boys- Karan, Kishan, Suraj, against whom he had earlier complained that they sell drugs, are involved. They had threatened him earlier, too. 5-6 rounds were fired,” Randhawa stated.

More details are awaited on the matter.

Meanwhile, Senior SAD leaders, including Bikram Singh Majithia, condemned the killing and criticised the Punjab government for failing to curb rising crime and gang activity. The Amritsar Commissionerate Police assured that the investigation is ongoing and all culprits will be brought to justice.
