Uncontrolled canter overturns after hitting tree in Jalandhar; Driver dies on spot

Jalandhar, June 27: The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when driver lost control of his canter, which was loaded with gravel, and collided with a tree in Jalandhar. A 41-year-old canter driver died on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Harjeet Singh, son of Jagir Singh, a resident of Singhpura village in Mukeria. The police have taken his body into custody and sent it to the Civil Hospital Jalandhar for a postmortem.

The deceased was married and had small children. Police from Pachranga Police Station of Bhogpur Police Station reached the spot to investigate the incident.

ASI Lakhwinder Singh, who is investigating the case from Pachranga Chowki, said that this accident happened around 5:30 in the morning. Canter driver Harjeet was going towards Dasuha. Harjeet had to go to CK Trading Company located in Makeria with the canter. He was going towards Jalandhar. When his canter reached near Pachranga of Bhogpur, his canter went out of control and hit a tree.

Death occurred before the road safety force arrived

The collision was so severe that Harjeet Singh died on the spot. The incident was reported to the police control room by passersby. After which teams of Road Safety Force reached the spot. When they came to know about the death, the police of Pachranga outpost of Bhogpur police station was immediately called to the spot for investigation.

At the time of the incident, the canter was loaded with gravel. According to the outpost in-charge, this accident happened due to Harjeet Singh falling asleep. At present, no action has been taken by the police in the case. After the postmortem, the body will be handed over to the family.
