Uttar Pradesh: The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Yogi Adityanath, has officially designated the Maha Kumbh area in Prayagraj as a new district in anticipation of the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela. This decision, announced on December 2, aims to enhance the management and administration of the major religious event scheduled for January 2025.
The new district will be named Maha Kumbh Mela. This initiative was discussed previously by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Adityanath during the Magh Mela 2024, as part of preparations for the Mahakumbh 2025.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to visit Uttar Pradesh on December 13 to assess the preparations and inaugurate significant development projects related to the event.
The official notification regarding the new district was issued by District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandad, referencing a government directive from November 25, 2024. The notification outlines the boundaries of the Maha Kumbh Mela District, which will encompass specific revenue villages and the entire parade area.
In this new district, the Mela Adhikari will hold the authority of an Executive Magistrate, District Magistrate, and Additional District Magistrate, as per the Indian Civil Defense Code, 2023. This role includes the powers of a Collector in various matters, with the ability to appoint an Additional Collector.
The Maha Kumbh, a significant event occurring every 12 years, is set to take place from January 13 to February 26, 2025, in Prayagraj, and is anticipated to play a crucial role in promoting Indian culture.
