Uttarakhand Police review security arrangements for Hemkund Sahib Yatra

Chamoli [Uttarakhand]: In preparation for the upcoming Hemkund Sahib Yatra, set to commence on May 25, Uttarakhand police conducted a field inspection of the pilgrimage route and reviewed security arrangements, officials shared.

The Uttarakhand Police emphasized that they have ramped up preparations, including thorough checks of the walking trail and security measures, to ensure a smooth pilgrimage season. Hemkund Sahib, a highly revered Sikh pilgrimage site in Uttarakhand, will open to devotees on May 25, 2025.

To streamline the registration process, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has introduced Aadhaar authentication and eKYC methods for registering for the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra—two of India’s most important pilgrimages. This move aims to reduce registration time, enhance the overall pilgrim experience, and enable better monitoring of movement to prevent overcrowding, especially in high-altitude areas prone to weather disruptions.

Aadhaar-linked online registration will also aid in planning accommodations, transport, food, and medical services based on the actual number of registered pilgrims, minimizing resource wastage and shortages. Additionally, it improves emergency response coordination between pilgrims and authorities. The offline registration at designated centers continues to be available.

Situated more than 15,000 feet above sea level in the Himalayan ranges of Chamoli district, Sri Hemkunt Sahib remains a popular destination for Sikh pilgrims, attracting thousands each summer. The site is inaccessible from October to April due to snow.
