Bengaluru: Following India’s withdrawal from the 4th T20 Blind Cricket World Cup due to government clearance issues, scheduled to take place in Pakistan from November 22 to December 3, 2024, captain Durga Rao Tompaki highlighted the team’s spirit and dedication, expressing their passion, pride, and commitment to future opportunities.
This decision comes just a week after the BCCI notified the International Cricket Council (ICC) that India would not participate in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year, also due to a lack of clearance from the Government of India.
“While this is a significant setback for the team, CABI fully respects the government’s concerns and the decision made. The team has been training hard and was excited to compete. However, we prioritize the government’s guidance and remain dedicated to the growth of Blind Cricket in India,” said the Cricket Association.
“We play with passion and represent our country with great pride. We always look forward to competing on the biggest stages, so it’s disheartening to miss this opportunity. Nevertheless, we know the next World Cup is just around the corner, and we are committed to our training and preparation.
Our recent coaching camp has been successful, showcasing emerging talent that can elevate our team to new heights. It’s essential to nurture these talents and ensure we are ready for the next tournament,” Durga Rao Tompaki, captain of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team for the Blind, stated.
India has won the Blind T20 World Cup in all three previous editions (2012, 2017, and 2022), defeating Pakistan in the finals of the first two tournaments and Bangladesh in their latest victory in 2022.
