A leopard attacked a tourist camp at the Pancheshwar River Trail tourist camp, adjacent to the Nepal border in Uttarakhand, on Tuesday evening. Ian, a 47-year-old resident of Gangtok, Sikkim, was seriously injured in the attack. However, his condition is now stable after treatment.
Leopard enters camp, seen earlier
According to camp operators, the leopard had been roaming the area since noon and damaged several tents. When people raised an alarm, it fled, but later quietly hid in the camp’s toilet.
Sudden attack on youth in toilet
When Ian, a young man involved in rafting, went to the toilet, the leopard suddenly attacked him. When the young man screamed and people raised an alarm, the leopard left him and ran away.
Hospitalized, condition stable
Following the incident, the injured youth was immediately taken to the Lohaghat Sub-District Hospital, where he received first aid. According to doctors, the youth’s body and face bore deep marks from the leopard’s teeth and claws.
He has been referred to Champawat District Hospital for further treatment.
