Dehradun: A live 7.62 mm cartridge was found in a passenger’s bag during security checks at Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport. The incident occurred on February 24th, when passengers traveling from Dehradun to Bengaluru on flight number 6E 6136 were being screened. The AAICLAS scanner operator noticed a suspicious object during the X-ray check, and a subsequent search revealed the cartridge.
Passenger gives explanation, fails to produce license
The passenger caught with the cartridge has been identified as 19-year-old Alok Chand. During interrogation, he claimed that the cartridge belonged to his grandfather, a retired army man, and was accidentally left in the bag. However, he could not produce any valid license or documents related to the cartridge.
Police action and bail
The incident was immediately reported to the Jolly Grant police station. Based on a complaint from the airport administration, the police registered a case and took the passenger to Doiwala police station. The young man admitted his mistake and was subsequently granted bail at the police station.
