New Delhi: Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda visited veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi on Saturday to enquire about his health.
Advani, 98, was admitted to the hospital around 7.30 pm on Friday with a chest infection. He is under observation, and doctors are conducting medical tests. Hospital officials said his condition was stable.
Advani Hospitalised After Chest Infection
The latest hospital visit comes a few months after Advani’s previous admission in May. He was treated at Apollo Hospital for age-related health problems and discharged after a few days.
He was also admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in December 2024. At the time, he was kept in the intensive care unit (ICU) for medical management and investigations. A neurologist supervised his treatment, and the hospital said his condition was stable.
Advani’s Long Association With the BJP
Advani was born in Karachi, now in Pakistan, on November 8, 1927. He became one of the BJP’s most prominent leaders and served as the party president several times.
His Ram Rath Yatra in 1990 marked an important phase in the BJP’s rise in national politics. The yatra helped the party widen its reach across the country, while Advani played a major role in building its organisational network.
He went on to serve as India’s Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 in the government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also held the Home Affairs portfolio during his political career.
Bharat Ratna Awarded in 2024
Advani received the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. In 2024, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in recognition of his contribution to public life.
For now, the veteran leader remains under observation at the Delhi hospital, with his condition reported to be stable.
