Tehran: A Mozambique-flagged LPG tanker carrying 28 Indian crew members came under attack in Iranian territorial waters near the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, the Indian Embassy in Tehran confirmed. The embassy said all Indian crew members onboard the vessel are safe.
The vessel, identified as LPG tanker DISHA (IMO No. 8818219), reported the attack while operating near the strategically important waterway. The Indian Embassy said it is in contact with relevant authorities and is closely monitoring the situation.

The Embassy of India in Tehran said it was aware that the Mozambique-flagged tanker came under attack and confirmed that all 28 Indian nationals onboard are safe.
The embassy added that it continues to remain in touch with concerned authorities and is closely following developments related to the incident.
Tanker sends distress call after reported attack
According to maritime radio communications, the vessel issued a distress call after reporting that it had come under attack near the eastern entrance of the Strait of Hormuz.
In the communication, a vessel identifying itself as Disha reportedly said it was attacked by unknown missiles and requested immediate assistance.
The incident occurred amid rising security concerns in the Gulf region, where commercial vessels have faced increased risks due to ongoing tensions.
India issues advisory for seafarers
The Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) had earlier directed ship owners, ship managers and Recruitment and Placement Service Licence (RPSL) companies to avoid deploying Indian seafarers on vessels travelling through the Strait of Hormuz until further orders.
The maritime regulator said the decision was taken to ensure the safety and security of Indian seafarers amid continuing threats and attacks involving merchant vessels in the conflict-affected region.
Authorities are monitoring the situation, while further details regarding the attack are awaited.
