Phagwara: Punjab Police have registered four FIRs in connection with the violence and vandalism linked to protests at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara. Three accused have been arrested and sent to three days’ police remand for further investigation.

The violence was reported on September 27 and 28 after protests triggered by social media claims concerning an alleged sexual assault involving a female student. The situation later escalated, with incidents of vandalism, property damage and a blockade of NH-44.

Three Accused Sent to 3-Day Police Remand

Police arrested three people in connection with the violence and produced them before a local court. The court granted three days’ police remand to enable investigators to question the accused and examine their alleged roles in the incidents.

Police are also examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and question additional people allegedly involved in the violence.

Four FIRs Registered

Four separate FIRs have been registered at Satnampura and Sadar Phagwara police stations in connection with different incidents.

The cases relate to alleged vandalism at LPU, obstruction of NH-44, violence during attempts to clear the highway, and alleged damage and looting at shops in Uni Mall.

The investigation is continuing, with police examining the circumstances surrounding the violence and the roles of those allegedly involved.
