Sanitation Workers in Ludhiana Launch All-Out Protest, Suspend Garbage Collection and Street Sweeping

Ludhiana Sanitation Workers Strike Tomorrow

Ludhiana Sanitation Workers Strike Tomorrow

Ludhiana: Here is an important update for the residents of Ludhiana. If you are planning to wait outside your home tomorrow morning for the garbage collection vehicle, please take note. To press for their demands, the Municipal Corporation’s sanitation workers and various unions are going on a complete strike tomorrow, May 15th. As a result of this strike, the city’s sanitation services will come to a complete standstill. Neither will door-to-door garbage collection take place, nor will the streets and lanes be swept.

Warning to CM Mann via the Commissioner

On Wednesday, several unions including the ‘Sangharsh Committee,’ the ‘Rashtriya Safai Karamchari Mahasangh,’ and the ‘Municipal Karamchari Dal’ submitted a warning letter addressed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann through the Municipal Corporation Commissioner. The union leaders stated in unequivocal terms that if their demands are not met, the city will be buried under heaps of filth, and the government alone will be held responsible for the consequences.

Employees Stand Firm on These 5 Key Demands

‘Ad hoc’ (temporary) sanitation workers must be regularized with immediate effect; the door-to-door garbage collection operations must not be outsourced to any private company; the old pension scheme must be reinstated to safeguard the employees’ future; employees will not allow the implementation of the digital attendance system; and relief must be provided to employees who have crossed the age limit for regularization by granting them permanent status as well.

Representatives of these organizations declared that sanitation services across the city will remain completely suspended tomorrow. They asserted that the government is ignoring their legitimate demands and vowed that their struggle would continue until a concrete decision is reached. To ensure the success of this massive strike, the ‘Municipal Karamchari Dal Punjab’, ‘Nagar Nigam Karamchari Union’, ‘Municipal Employees Federation,’ ‘VSS’ and ‘Nagar Nigam Safai Mazdoor Union Punjab’ have announced that they are joining forces.
