Twenty-five people died in a fire at an illegally constructed nightclub in Goa, a popular tourist destination in India.
Although the illegally built nightclub has now been demolished, the fact remains that 25 people died due to mismanagement. An even harsher truth is that the club owners, Saurav Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, fled to Thailand the very next day to evade arrest, while the police were searching for them in Goa and Delhi.
They had comfortably reached Thailand. However, our extradition treaty with Thailand proved effective. The Thai police apprehended the Luthra brothers there. They tried to obtain anticipatory bail from an Indian court, but their application was rejected. Now, according to the extradition treaty, the Luthra brothers will be brought back from Thailand after completing all the necessary legal procedures.
Their partner, Ajay Gupta, who was in Delhi, has been arrested and sent to seven days of police custody. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has stated that they are ensuring the Luthra brothers are brought back to India soon. It is worth noting that the Luthra brothers fled to Thailand immediately after the fire at their nightclub on December 6th. An Interpol Blue Corner notice was issued against both brothers.
After their detention in Phuket, the process of bringing them back to India has begun. We believe that such criminals against humanity should receive the maximum possible punishment without delay, so that greedy businessmen who engage in such illegal activities at tourist destinations receive a deterrent punishment.
