Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat has played a significant role in promoting the state’s tourism potential.
Speaking after listening to the 132nd episode of the programme in Dehradun, Dhami highlighted how repeated mentions of Uttarakhand in the show have helped bring national and global attention to the state’s natural beauty and tourism opportunities.
Platform connecting people and promoting stories
The Chief Minister described ‘Mann Ki Baat’ as a unique platform that connects directly with citizens and showcases inspiring stories from across the country. He said the programme highlights individuals achieving extraordinary feats even in remote areas, which motivates society and spreads positivity.
Dhami added that such storytelling not only inspires people but also brings recognition to lesser-known regions, including Uttarakhand’s scenic and cultural destinations.
Frequent mention of Uttarakhand in programme
According to Dhami, the Prime Minister frequently mentions Uttarakhand in his addresses, highlighting its spiritual sites, natural landscapes, and emerging tourism sectors.
He pointed out that destinations like Adi Kailash, Harsil, and other Himalayan regions have gained wider visibility due to these references. The repeated spotlight has encouraged more tourists to explore the state, particularly during off-season periods.
Major push to winter tourism
The Chief Minister stressed that ‘Mann Ki Baat’ has significantly boosted winter tourism in Uttarakhand. Traditionally, tourist footfall declined during colder months, but targeted promotion through the programme has helped change this trend.
He noted that more visitors are now choosing Uttarakhand as a winter destination, leading to increased economic activity and employment opportunities for local communities.
Towards an all-season tourism hub
Dhami reiterated the state government’s vision of developing Uttarakhand into an “all-season tourism destination.” He said efforts are underway to strengthen infrastructure, promote new tourist circuits, and improve connectivity to remote areas.
The government is also focusing on adventure tourism, religious tourism, and eco-tourism to diversify offerings and attract a broader range of visitors throughout the year.
PM Modi’s visits add to tourism growth
Apart from the radio programme, Dhami highlighted that Prime Minister Modi’s visits to key religious and tourist sites in Uttarakhand have also contributed to the surge in tourism.
He said such high-profile visits enhance the state’s visibility and credibility as a travel destination, encouraging both domestic and international tourists.
Positive impact on local economy
The Chief Minister emphasized that the growth in tourism has had a direct impact on the local economy. Increased tourist arrivals have created new opportunities for small businesses, including hotels, homestays, transport services, and local artisans.
He added that the government is committed to ensuring sustainable tourism practices while expanding the sector.
