Family Shot at Newly Occupied House
According to reports, the incident took place early Tuesday morning at the family’s house in Mansa. The family had reportedly shifted to the house, which was still under construction, on Monday evening.
Preliminary information suggests that Gurwinder Singh allegedly fired at his wife and both sons before shooting himself. Reports also stated that he used his official weapon in the incident.
Wife and Younger Son in Critical Condition
The injured woman and her younger son were initially taken to Mansa Civil Hospital before being referred for advanced medical treatment. Their condition was reported to be critical.
Senior police officials have taken cognisance of the incident, and an investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances that led to the shooting. Preliminary reports have pointed towards a domestic dispute, though the exact reason remains under investigation.
Incident Ahead of Amit Shah’s Visit to Mansa
The incident occurred hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Mansa on Tuesday. Shah is visiting Punjab to meet the family of slain anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, whose killing on October 13 triggered protests and demands for justice.
The shooting involving the Deputy Commissioner’s gunman has shocked the area as authorities prepare for the Home Minister’s visit. However, there is no reported evidence linking the family shooting to Shah’s scheduled programme.
