Milk Prices Rise in Ludhiana by ₹5/kg from May 1 Amid Inflation

Ludhiana, April 22: Amidst rising inflation and a labor crisis in Ludhiana, a decision has been taken to increase milk prices within the city. In a joint meeting, the Haibowal and Tajpur Road Dairy Associations announced a hike of ₹5 per kilogram in milk rates, effective from May 1, 2026.

Milk Rates to Increase Across Ludhiana, Say Dairy Leaders

Providing details, Kuldeep Singh Lahoria, President of the Dairy Association, and Chairman Parminder Singh Bobby stated that a joint meeting was held today involving dairy complexes from both Tajpur Road and Hambran Road. During this meeting, a unanimous decision was reached that, due to escalating operational costs, it is no longer financially viable to supply milk at current rates. These revised rates will be applicable across the entire city of Ludhiana.

Operations Hampered Due to Non-Availability of Gas Cylinders

According to the association, persistent inflation has led to a significant rise in the cost of animal fodder. Simultaneously, the sector is grappling with a labor shortage and increasing wage demands. Furthermore, operations are being adversely affected by the unavailability of gas cylinders. The impact of the prevailing international situation (specifically, the ongoing conflict) has made it increasingly difficult to sustain dairy businesses.

Dairy Association Appeals to the Public

Appealing to the city residents for their cooperation, the Dairy Association emphasized that, given the current circumstances, raising prices has become an unavoidable necessity. The dairies are facing severe operational challenges primarily due to the acute shortage of labor.
