Mobile phones were recovered from the possession of two inmates during a search operation targeting contraband items at Ludhiana Central Jail. Additionally, a touchscreen mobile phone was found abandoned on the premises. Acting on a complaint filed by the jail administration, the Division No. 7 police have registered a case against the two inmates and an unidentified person, and an investigation is underway.
In the complaint lodged with the police, Balihar Singh, Assistant Superintendent of Ludhiana Central Jail, stated that inmates were searched during a routine inspection of the premises on July 27. During this process, a black keypad mobile phone (manufactured by Snexian), along with its battery and SIM card, was recovered from inmate Gurpreet Singh.
SIM Card and Battery Also Found
Furthermore, a keypad phone, a SIM card, and a battery were recovered from inmate Rohit Kumar. A touchscreen mobile phone was also discovered abandoned within the jail premises during the search. The police are now investigating the ownership of the SIM cards found in the recovered phones and are tracing the calls made to or received from these devices.
Violation of Jail Rules by Possessing Contraband
According to the complaint, the accused violated jail regulations by possessing contraband items inside the prison. Based on Assistant Superintendent Balihar Singh’s complaint, the Division No. 7 police have registered a case against inmates Gurpreet Singh and Rohit Kumar, as well as an unidentified individual, under Section 52-A(1) of the Prisons Act.
