Two more Nihangs have come down from the third floor of the Nagrasu Gurudwara, where they had been stationed. One of the two who descended has been identified as Paramveer Singh (33), a resident of Malakpur village in Rupnagar (Ropar) district, Punjab, while the other has been identified as Jagandeep. One Nihang had already come down yesterday. With these three having descended, four Nihangs now remain inside the Gurudwara.
The high-voltage drama at the Nagrasu Gurudwara, which began on Saturday evening, subsided to some extent on Sunday evening after approximately 27 hours. During this period, three rounds of talks took place between the district administration and the Nihangs, but no concrete solution was reached. The Nihangs remained adamant on their demand for the release of individuals arrested in connection with the Karnaprayag incident.
Following renewed talks with the administration on Sunday evening, the held sevadar (caretaker), Navtej Singh, was released. Additionally, one Nihang came down. Now, with Paramveer Singh and Jagandeep descending on Monday, the number of Nihangs inside the Gurudwara has dropped to four.
Two people, including the Gurudwara caretaker, had been held captive
The administration is in continuous dialogue with the Nihangs inside. Devotee movement and Ardas (prayers) resumed at the Gurudwara on Sunday evening. The police administration has described the situation as one that escalated due to an internal dispute. According to initial reports, seven Nihangs had climbed to the third floor of the Gurudwara and held two people—including the caretaker—captive.
Police, ITBP, ATS, and other security forces were deployed within the Gurudwara complex and the surrounding area to bring the situation under control. The administration is striving to resolve the dispute by peacefully bringing down the remaining four Nihangs as well.
