New Delhi: Senior Akali Dal leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Gujral has strongly endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolute stand against external pressure on India’s foreign policy, particularly in response to recent US trade and geopolitical demands.
Reacting to tensions over punitive tariffs imposed by the United States on Indian exports and Washington’s calls to sever trade ties with Russia, Gujral called such demands “illogical” and “hypocritical,” pointing out that major global powers—including the US itself—continue to engage economically with Russia.

“It is hypocritical for the US to expect India to cut ties with Russia when countries like China, the European Union, and the US itself are trading with Russia,” said Gujral.
He welcomed the Prime Minister’s clear message that India will act in accordance with its national interest and will not tolerate interference in its sovereign foreign policy decisions.
Calling for political unity, Gujral urged all parties across the spectrum to support the government on this issue.
“A strong and united stand will send a message to the world that India’s independent foreign policy will not be compromised, regardless of the cost,” he asserted.
