New Delhi: About 12.75 lakh appointment letters have been issued through the ‘National Rozgar Mela’ across 20 editions to date, according to a government factsheet.
Launched in October 2022 with an initial target of 10 lakh government jobs, the initiative has since evolved into a nationwide mission-mode recruitment effort. New recruits have joined various departments, including the Ministries of Railways, Home Affairs, Health and Family Welfare, Financial Services, Labour and Employment, and the Department of Posts.
20th Rozgar Mela Held On Saturday
The 20th edition of the ‘National Rozgar Mela’ was conducted on Saturday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the event through video conferencing and distributing more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly inducted youth in government departments and organisations.
The first Rozgar Mela, held in October 2022, distributed more than 75,000 appointment letters at 50 locations across the country.
Recruitment And Skill Development
According to the government, recruitment under the initiative is being pursued through a mission-mode approach, with ministries and departments working to fill vacancies against sanctioned posts. Recruitment is carried out through established mechanisms and designated agencies such as the Union Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission and Railway Recruitment Boards.
The initiative also brings together recruitment, skill development, career counselling and entrepreneurship support. The National Skill Development Corporation organises Rozgar Melas in collaboration with Sector Skill Councils and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras, while private-sector employers are also mobilised to offer employment opportunities to eligible candidates.
The government said the initiative is aimed at connecting young people with employment opportunities, strengthening the skilled workforce and enabling greater participation in public service and national development.
