15 Bangladeshi immigrants deported, 35 more to be deported by March, says official

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has successfully deported 15 Bangladeshi immigrants and is working to deport an additional 35 by March, as stated by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bharat Patel.

In 2024, the Crime Branch conducted a combing operation around Chadola Lake in Ahmedabad, resulting in the detention of 50 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, including one minor girl. These individuals were found with forged Indian documents, such as fake Aadhar cards. Investigations also revealed a human trafficking ring that involved Bangladeshi women and minor girls being trafficked for prostitution.

The deportees were living under duress and had engaged in activities against the nation. Following the verification of their Bangladeshi citizenship, deportation processes commenced. On February 1, 15 immigrants, including the minor, were deported to Bangladesh, with the Bangladeshi embassy confirming their citizenship. The deportation of the remaining 35 individuals is anticipated by next month.

ACP Bharat Patel noted that the trafficked women were exploited by agents, and funds from these operations were being transferred back to Bangladesh under the pretense of trade. Investigations into the trafficking network and the financial transactions to Bangladesh are ongoing.

In a related incident in Delhi, the Dwarka district police detained 16 individuals suspected of residing illegally in India, including five Bangladeshi nationals. Among those apprehended were Mohd Sharif (54), Najrul Shiekh (50), his wife Parveen (25), and two children. The group was found to be overstaying their visas and were subsequently referred to the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which ordered their deportation to a detention center.

Additionally, on February 7, the RCF police in Mumbai arrested seven Bangladeshi nationals who had allegedly been living illegally in Mahul village, Chembur, for the past five years. This group included three men and four women, according to the Mumbai Police.
