3-day Special Session of Maha assembly starts today, protem speaker to administer oath to 288 MLAs

Mumbai: The 3-day special session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is starting today in Mumbai. On the first day, the Protem Speaker will administer the oath to all 288 newly elected MLAs.

Earlier, on December 6, MLA Kalidas Kolambkar was elected Protem Speaker for the special session of the Assembly. He was sworn in by Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhavan.

The Speaker of the Assembly will be elected on December 9. Two names are in the headlines for the post of Speaker. These include Rahul Narvekar and Sudhir Mungantiwar.

Rahul has been the Speaker in the previous Assembly, but he wants a ministerial post in the current government. In such a situation, Sudhir Mungantiwar is considered a strong contender for the Speaker.

After the oath of the MLAs and the election of the Speaker, the Governor’s address will be held on December 9 itself. At the same time, the winter session of the new Assembly will begin in Nagpur from December 16.

On December 5, Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister and Eknath Shinde-Ajit Pawar took oath as Deputy Chief Minister. Maharashtra CM was sworn in on 23 November, 13 days after the election results were announced. Shinde, who accepted the post of deputy CM after much persuasion, became the second leader of Maharashtra to become deputy CM from CM. Fadnavis, on the other hand, took oath as Chief Minister for the third time in 10 years. He is the first BJP leader to do so.

NCP leader Ajit Pawar became deputy CM for the sixth time. He has become the first leader of Maharashtra to be deputy CM in Congress, Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi government.
