Young man drowns while taking selfie at Sarsa Mata Dam in Alwar

Alwar, Rajasthan, June 26: A 25-year-old man drowned after slipping into the Sarsa Mata Dam in the Tahla area of Thanagaji, Alwar, while trying to take a salfie on Wednesday evening.

Victim identified as a retired Loco Pilot’s son

The deceased, Nihal Gurjar, was the son of Kartar Singh Gurjar, a retired Loco Pilot and resident of Sialabas village in Bandikui. Nihal had gone to visit the dam with two friends in his elder brother’s car.

Foot slipped while making a video reel 

According to Tahla SHO Ramswaroop, the group was busy shooting video reels when Nihal slipped and fell into the water. He reportedly did not know how to swim. His friends, panicked by the incident, fled the scene.

Villagers alert Police; Overnigh search operation launched

Local villagers witnessed the incident and immediately informed the police. A search and rescue operation was launched, but efforts were halted overnight due to visibility and safety concerns.

Body recovered after 12 hours

The search resumed early Thursday morning at 6 am, involving the police, NDRF team, and local villagers. After nearly two hours, Nihal’sbody was found tangeled in underwater bushes and was recovered. the body was sent for postmortem and later handed over to the family.

The incident adds to a growing list of selfie-related tragedies across India, underscoring the dangers of taking photos near water bodies or hazardous locations without proper safety measures
