Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government announced a property tax exemption for houses owned by Indian Defence personnel located within gram panchayat limits across the state. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan shared this decision via a post on ‘X’ on Sunday night, noting it as a gesture of respect and gratitude toward the brave soldiers.

The Jana Sena leader explained that the Panchayat Raj Department has decided to grant property tax relief to homes belonging to active and retired members of the Indian Defence Forces—including Army, Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary forces like CRPF—inside their respective Gram Panchayat areas. This marks a step forward from previous exemptions that only covered retired personnel or those stationed at border areas; now, all active service members, regardless of posting location, are eligible. The exemption applies to one house occupied or jointly owned by the soldier or their spouse.

Pawan Kalyan highlighted that this decision was made based on recommendations from the Director of Sainik Welfare and is an expression of Andhra Pradesh’s appreciation for its soldiers. He reaffirmed that the government remains committed to supporting the families of those who serve and sacrifice for the nation.

On Sunday, Pawan Kalyan also paid homage to soldier Murali Naik, who was killed during cross-border firing along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir as part of Operation Sindoor. He praised Murali’s dedication, mentioning his journey from Gorantla village in Sri Sathya Sai district to the battlefield, driven by love for the country. Despite having other career options, Murali Naik chose to serve in the Indian Army, exemplifying commitment and sacrifice. The large turnout at his funeral reflected the nation’s respect, Pawan Kalyan said.

The Andhra Pradesh government announced an ex gratia of Rs 50 lakh for Murali Naik’s family, along with the allotment of five acres of agricultural land and a 300-square-yard house site. Pawan Kalyan also contributed Rs 25 lakh from his personal funds to support the family.
