Assam Rifles recovers heroin worth Rs 1.2 Crore, arrests made in Mizoram

Champhai (Mizoram): In a recent anti-drug operation, the Assam Rifles intercepted 161.2 grams of heroin worth around Rs 1.209 crore in Mizoram’s Champhai district. The seizure occurred in the Zotlang area on June 20, 2025, as part of the ongoing efforts to prevent drug trafficking along the India-Myanmar border. A statement confirmed that the Assam Rifles recovered 13 Hongs of Heroin No-4 weighing approximately 161.200 grams, and the confiscated narcotics along with those detained were handed over to the Champhai Excise and Narcotics Department for further investigation and legal action.

In another significant crackdown on smuggling, Assam Rifles seized 170 cartons of prohibited foreign cigarettes near Chandrapur in Agartala, Tripura, on June 18. The operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs. The estimated market value of the seized cigarettes is about Rs 5.1 crore, and the contraband was handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Earlier, on May 27, authorities in Assam, including police and Assam Rifles, jointly intercepted 648 grams of heroin in Cachar district. The heroin was valued at approximately Rs 3.5 crore. This operation involved collaboration between the Cachar Police, Assam Rifles, and the Anti-Rhino Force Intelligence Unit (ARFIU), continuing the state’s crackdown on narcotics trafficking across interstate and international borders.
