Bharat Bandh called by Dalit, Adivasis today; protest against Apex Court’s decision

New Delhi: A 14-hour Bharat Bandh has been called on Wednesday (August 21) against the Supreme Court’s decision to implement creamy layer in SC-ST reservation. Protests have started under the leadership of the National Confederation of Dalit and Tribal Organizations (NACDAOR).

The maximum impact of the bandh is seen in Bihar. In some districts of the state, protesters are coming on the road and shouting slogans against the government. At the same time, schools and coaching centers have been closed as a precaution in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The National Confederation of Dalit and Tribal Organizations (NACDAOR) has described the court’s suggestion as against the constitutional rights of Dalits and tribals. It has also demanded the central government to cancel it.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress and Left parties have supported this nationwide strike. JMM has asked all its leaders, district presidents, secretaries and district coordinators to participate in this strike.

JMM general secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey has said that the Supreme Court’s recent decision on Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe reservation will prove to be an obstacle in the path of upliftment and strengthening of SC-ST sections.

RJD state general secretary Kailash Yadav said that the party has decided to extend its support and participate in the one-day strike.

Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha said that the party has also supported the call for the bandh. He said that Dalit and tribal organizations have demanded strong representation and security for the marginalized communities.
