Bhilwara bandh today over gangrape, alleged religious conversion

Bhilwara: A widespread bandh is being observed in Bhilwara today, called by saints under the Sakal Hindu Samaj banner, to protest a gang rape and alleged “love jihad” case involving a minor girl. The shutdown has garnered support from various organizations, including trader associations, leading to the closure of markets from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with essential services exempted.

Additional police forces have been deployed across sensitive areas to maintain law and order, focusing on key market areas and intersections. Seven coordination points have been established throughout the city, where organizational leaders are gathering to ensure the bandh’s success.

Protestors plan to march from these points towards Shri Guest House Square, move through main markets, and culminate in a rally commencing from Dudhdhari Gopal Mandir, concluding at Bajrangi Square at 2 p.m., followed by a large Aakrosh Sabha to determine future actions.

The bandh follows a complaint filed by the victim’s father against six accused individuals, alleging repeated gang rape and threats to disseminate obscene photos and videos on social media. Police have assured strict action against the perpetrators, with investigations ongoing. Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh has affirmed that stringent security measures are in place, with additional forces and emergency services on standby to prevent any disturbances.
