New Delhi: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi on Thursday, alleging corruption linked to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. He claimed that Arvind Kejriwal’s administration prioritized its liquor policy over education.Chugh stated, “The CAG report is currently under discussion in the Delhi Assembly. Engaging in discussions about theft and scams is essential for a healthy democracy and is urgently needed… Instead of focusing on education, Kejriwal’s government has opened bars across Delhi.”
He added that the BJP’s Delhi government would present this issue to the public with full determination and ensure that those who exploited the poor face strict consequences.
In response, AAP leader Atishi defended the former Kejriwal-led administration, asserting that the report highlighted issues in the old excise policy, which the AAP had previously exposed and replaced with a new one. During a press conference, Atishi mentioned, “The excise audit report presented today in the Delhi Assembly comprises seven chapters on the excise policy from 2017-21 and one chapter on the new policy. The Delhi government had brought the flaws and corruption of the old policy to the public’s attention.”
Atishi further claimed that the previous policy allowed illegal liquor sourcing from neighboring states, resulting in financial losses for Delhi. On Thursday, AAP MLAs, along with Atishi, protested outside the Assembly, holding ‘Jai Bhim’ placards after being denied entry into the Delhi Vidhan Sabha.
The CAG report on the Delhi Excise Policy was presented in the assembly on the second day of the session by newly elected Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday, highlighting alleged irregularities in the policy implemented during the previous AAP government.
