BJP's Vijender Gupta elected as Delhi Assembly Speaker

New Delhi: BJP MLA Vijender Gupta from Rohini was elected as the Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, following a nomination by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. In keeping with tradition, both Gupta and Leader of Opposition Atishi accompanied him to the Speaker’s chair. The first session of the eighth legislative assembly began today, with BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely taking the oath as Protem Speaker at Raj Niwas, administered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Later, Vijender Gupta was officially elected as Speaker.

Rekha Gupta, elected from Shalimar Bagh, also took her oath as an MLA for the 8th Legislative Assembly. She expressed her commitment to serving all citizens of Delhi, stating, “I pledge my dedication towards Delhi! Shalimar Bagh is my karmabhoomi, but every citizen of Delhi is my family. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I will strive for the development of the entire state and public service.”

Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma assured the public that the new government would meet their expectations and fulfill the promises made during the election campaign. He emphasized the importance of cooperation from the opposition, stating, “We want to create good laws to elevate Delhi. While we don’t claim to transform Delhi into Paris or London, we are committed to its development.”
