New Delhi: A man has been arrested in Delhi for allegedly raping a British woman at a hotel in Mahipalpur, as reported by media. The accused, named Kailash, befriended the victim on Instagram, while his accomplice was taken into custody for molestation, according to Delhi police.
The incident has been reported to the British High Commission. In an official statement, the Delhi Police said, “A man was arrested for raping a British woman in a Mahipalpur hotel. His accomplice was also arrested on charges of molestation. The woman had traveled from the UK to meet her social media friend.”
Police sources indicate that Kailash, a resident of Vasundhara, Mayur Vihar in East Delhi, creates Instagram reels and connected with the London resident on the platform months prior. While the woman was visiting Maharashtra and Goa, she invited Kailash to meet her, but he suggested she visit Delhi instead.
Reports from sources reveal that Kailash is employed at a private company but has difficulty speaking English, relying on Google Translate for their conversations.
In a separate incident, an Israeli tourist and a homestay owner were recently gang-raped in Karnataka by three men while stargazing near a canal close to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi. All suspects in that case have been arrested.
