CM Conrad K Sangma launches class readiness program in Meghalaya

Shillong: On Wednesday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma launched the CM Impact Meghalaya Class Readiness Program e-books, aimed at facilitating smoother transitions between grades for enhanced academic success. The event was attended by Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, Commissioner & Secretary of Education Vijay Mantri, and MIDC Chairman James K Sangma.

During the launch, CM Sangma highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to reform the education sector, acknowledging the numerous challenges faced, including issues related to teachers, infrastructure, and various school categories. He emphasized that improving the pass percentage in secondary school examinations has been a primary focus.

Sangma noted that while multiple strategies have been implemented, the Meghalaya class readiness program is a significant step toward enhancing learning quality at the primary, upper primary, and secondary levels. He expressed hope that initiatives like this would effectively address gaps in education and help achieve the set goals in the sector.

The Meghalaya class readiness program is designed to empower students and strengthen the educational framework, targeting foundational literacy and quality outcomes across grades. The initiative is tailored for students in classes 1 to 10, ensuring they acquire essential skills for their academic progress. Key aspects of the program include engaging students through experiential learning, making education more interactive and effective.

This four-week initiative is intended for all teachers across the state’s schools and serves as a short-term intervention aimed at promoting equitable and quality education. Swapnil Tembe, Director of the Directorate of School Education and Literacy, explained that the program is based on the Vidya Pravesh module developed by NCERT, facilitating smooth transitions between grades to ensure school readiness. He also mentioned that a webinar will be organized to train teachers on the program.
