Delhi Assembly session extended till March 3, PAC to be formed soon: Speaker Vijender Gupta

New Delhi: The second day of the Delhi Assembly session was marked by intense opposition protests, leading Speaker Vijender Gupta to suspend 21 MLAs until February 28. In a press briefing, Gupta announced that the first CAG report had been presented and that the assembly session would be extended until March 3 to accommodate more reports.

He also mentioned that a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) with 12 to 14 members from both the ruling and opposition parties would be established soon. After discussions in the assembly, the report will be forwarded to the PAC for review, and appropriate actions will follow based on the committee’s findings.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the CAG report concerning the liquor policy during the session. Before the assembly convened, she chaired a meeting with BJP MLAs to discuss the report and ensure the session proceeds smoothly. Speaker Gupta criticized the previous Delhi government for delaying the report’s presentation, claiming it violated constitutional procedures.

BJP MLA Arvind Singh Lovely opened the discussion on the CAG report, emphasizing that its submission is essential for any government. He accused the AAP of presenting the report out of fear and of misusing Baba Saheb’s name to cover up corruption. He also criticized Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, referencing Bhagat Singh in his comments.

Delhi BJP President Vijender Gupta described the CAG report as evidence of AAP’s corrupt practices, affirming their electoral promise to hold corrupt individuals accountable. Minister Pravesh Verma stated that the CAG report would be shown on screens for the public to see the extent of corruption, while Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa claimed that the report would reveal numerous scams that had been hidden for three years.
