Delhi: BJP MLA Ravindra Singh Negi slams AAP over liquor policy scam

New Delhi: BJP MLA Ravindra Singh Negi sharply criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over alleged irregularities in the liquor policy, referencing the findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. During a session in the Delhi Assembly, Negi stated that the report, which pointed to a potential Rs 2,000 crore scam, would be thoroughly debated.

Negi also responded to the suspension of opposition MLAs, accusing AAP of ignoring constitutional principles. He remarked, “You (opposition) carry the image of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, but you should follow the Constitution as he advised… AAP may feel they’re still in power, but they must remember they are no longer in power.”

Meanwhile, Congress called for a broader investigation into the Delhi liquor scam after the CAG’s report was presented in the assembly. Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav and senior leader Sandeep Dikshit demanded the formation of a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to investigate the scam and ensure those responsible are punished. They stressed the importance of making the details of the CAG report public.

Congress leaders also claimed that their party had been vindicated, as they had formally complained about the liquor policy. They called for an inquiry into the involvement of certain BJP leaders, alleging that both AAP and BJP had colluded in promoting the excise policy, which was later withdrawn. They pointed out that the policy had been approved by the then Lieutenant Governor and criticized the BJP-controlled municipal corporations for granting permits to open liquor vends in non-conforming wards. They insisted that the role of the BJP in these approvals should be thoroughly investigated.
