Delhi Police and NGOs Collaborate to Rescue 35 Minors in Recent Child Labour Operations

Delhi Police successfully rescues 21 trafficked in child labour

New Delhi: In a concerted effort to combat child labour, Delhi Police successfully rescued 21 children, including two girls, from various shops in Sadar Bazar, Delhi Cantonment. This operation, carried out on October 8, was coordinated by the Delhi Cantonment Tehsildar alongside a non-governmental organization (NGO), the labour department, and local police.

Following the rescue, 19 of the children were sent to Mukti Ashram Burari, while the two girls were taken to the Rainbow Girls Home at Kashmiri Gate. Authorities have registered a case under Sections 74 and 79 of the Juvenile Justice Act, as well as Sections 3 and 14 of the Child Labour Act.

Similarly, a rescue operation on October 3 led by the Vidisha Welfare Social Organisation (VWSO) in collaboration with the Government Railway Police (GRP) freed 14 minors who were victims of child trafficking. The operation began during a routine check on the Ahmedabad Express at Ganjbasoda railway station, where GRP personnel uncovered 10 children in concerning circumstances. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that these children were being trafficked from Bihar to Ahmedabad for labour purposes.

Deepa Sharma from the VWSO explained that while 10 children were rescued at Ganjbasoda, four were recovered later in Bhopal after the train had left. The ongoing operations reflect a growing commitment to addressing and eradicating child labour and trafficking in the region.
