New Delhi: In a significant development, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Delhi Police Crime Branch has apprehended Jameel Ahmad, the suspected mastermind behind a major drug trafficking network who had been on the run for six years. This arrest marks a major success in Delhi Police’s ongoing ‘Zero Tolerance’ crackdown on drugs and the broader Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The case originated in June 2019 when the Narcotics Cell (now ANTF) seized 500 kg of ganja from a truck at Metcalfe Bus Stand, Kashmere Gate. Three individuals—Aslam Khan and Mausam Khan from Nuh district in Haryana, and Jakam Khan from Alwar, Rajasthan—were detained. During interrogation, they revealed that the ganja was sourced from Odisha on the instructions of Jameel Ahmad, who lives in Pinangwan village in Nuh.
A chargesheet was filed against the trio, and their trial is ongoing. Despite multiple police efforts and a rejected anticipatory bail plea, Ahmad remained at large until early 2025 when a new team was formed to continue investigations.
Through persistent efforts and intelligence gathering, Ahmad was tracked down and arrested on May 8 at his home in Pinangwan. During interrogations, he admitted to procuring the ganja from two Odisha residents, Gabriel and Paul. A police team was sent to Odisha’s Tikmala village, where Gabriel, a known drug trafficker with previous arrests for cultivating ganja worth Rs 17 crore, was located. His search is ongoing.
This arrest is considered a major victory for the ANTF, reinforcing its commitment to dismantling interstate drug trafficking networks.
