New Delhi: Atishi Marlena, Delhi’s Water Minister, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the water crisis in Delhi, threatening to begin an indefinite fast if the national capital does not receive its allotted water supply by June 21.
She expressed concern that Delhi is facing severe water shortages exacerbated by Haryana’s actions, which she labeled as a major cause of the crisis.
In her letter, Atishi highlighted that despite court directives, Delhi continues to be deprived of its rightful share of water. She emphasized her inability to witness the distress of Delhi residents and indicated her readiness to resort to ‘satyagraha’ if the situation remains unresolved within the next two days.
Atishi appealed to PM Modi to intervene urgently, urging him to ensure that Haryana fulfills its obligation to release Delhi’s allocated water. She blamed the Haryana government for causing water scarcity affecting 28 lakh Delhiites, pointing out a significant shortfall of 100 MGD (Million Gallons per Day) in recent supplies.
Despite efforts by AAP legislators to engage with central and Haryana officials, Atishi noted no progress in securing the additional 100 MGD of water needed for Delhi. She concluded her letter by urging PM Modi to address the matter promptly and appealing to Haryana to release the required water on humanitarian grounds.
