Bengaluru: Based on specific intelligence, officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Bengaluru Zonal Unit intercepted an Indian man arriving from Doha at Bengaluru International Airport, who was found to be carrying over 4 kilograms of cocaine valued at approximately ₹40 crore.
During a detailed screening of his baggage, officers noticed two unusually heavy superhero comics or magazines. Careful inspection revealed that white powder had been hidden within the covers of these magazines, and testing confirmed it was cocaine. The 4,006 grams of cocaine was seized under the NDPS Act, and the passenger was arrested and placed in judicial custody.
In a similar operation in March, the DRI intercepted a female passenger arriving from Dubai, who was found to be carrying 14.2 kilograms of gold bars concealed on her person, with a worth of ₹12.56 crore. The search, based on specific intelligence, was conducted when she arrived via Emirates flight.
Further investigations at her residence on Lavelle Road, Bengaluru, uncovered gold jewelry worth ₹2.06 crore and cash totaling ₹2.67 crore. The gold and cash were seized under the Customs Act, 1962.
