New Delhi: Five people were killed in Uttar Pradesh on Monday when a truck collided with the car they were traveling in on the National Highway in Basti. The incident occurred when a high-speed truck, headed toward Ayodhya, tried to change lanes and struck a car coming from the opposite direction, traveling toward Basti.

The crash was catastrophic, killing five of the eight passengers in the car instantly. Three others were severely injured and remain in critical condition. They were rushed to the district hospital, where their condition is still being closely monitored.

Local police quickly responded to the accident, initiating rescue operations and transporting the bodies for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations are focusing on the truck’s speed and the lane change as key factors in the collision.

The accident occurred near Gotwa Bazaar, under the jurisdiction of the Nagar Police Station, leaving the local community deeply affected. Authorities are also looking into whether road conditions or further negligence contributed to the crash.

Residents have expressed their grief over the tragic loss and have urged the government to implement stronger road safety measures, particularly on busy highways.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences to the victims’ families, directing district officials to expedite relief efforts and ensure that the injured receive timely and adequate medical care.
