Four arrested in Karnataka in moral policing case

Belagavi: Four individuals were arrested in Belagavi district, Karnataka, on Monday in connection with a moral policing incident. The police are also searching for two other suspects who remain absconding.

The incident occurred a few days ago in the jurisdiction of the Belagavi Rural Police Station. Allauddin Pirzade, a resident of Savagaon village, filed the complaint. The arrested individuals have been identified as Satish Jadhav, Sumit, Veeresh, and another person.

According to the police, Allauddin was attacked by the group for talking to a girl from the Hindu community on the outskirts of the village. After assaulting him, the attackers threatened him with further consequences if he was seen speaking to the girl again. Allauddin later went to the Belagavi Rural Police Station in torn clothes to file the complaint and seek protection.

More details about the incident are yet to be released.

This case follows other high-profile incidents of moral policing in Karnataka, including a January attack on a massage parlour in Mangaluru by Rama Sene activists who accused the center of illegal activities. Additionally, in a disturbing case from March 2024 in Haveri district, police filed charges in the Hangal gang-rape case, where the victim, a minority community woman, was assaulted and raped by vigilantes after being seen with a man from a different religion. The police have arrested 19 individuals in connection with this case, and the charge sheet spans 873 pages.
