Bhopal: Heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh led to significant waterlogging in several parts of Bhopal on Wednesday. Videos captured vehicles navigating through flooded roads. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted a partly cloudy sky with chances of rain, thunderstorms, or duststorms in the city. Earlier, on Tuesday, IMD issued warnings about heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
According to an IMD press release, active monsoon conditions are expected to persist across many parts of northwest, central, and eastern India over the next 6-7 days. There is potential for extremely heavy rains (≥20 cm) at isolated locations in Madhya Pradesh, western Uttar Pradesh, and eastern Rajasthan today. The release also noted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh, along with similar conditions in Odisha, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, and other regions.
Thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds of 60-90 kmph are expected in Himachal Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam, while gusts of 40-60 kmph are forecasted in Madhya Maharashtra, Punjab, West Madhya Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Marathwada, Jharkhand, Konkan, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and interior Karnataka.
Meanwhile, on June 26, heavy rainfall in Bhopal caused severe waterlogging at Alpana Tiraha and near platform 6 of the railway station. This created difficulties for commuters, who had to rely on auto rickshaws and e-rickshaws to reach their destinations. An auto driver, Anas Khan, mentioned that he was charging Rs 10 to cross the flooded street leading to the railway station, as passengers faced trouble getting through. A passenger, Mahesh Kukreja, described the chaos at the railway station, highlighting the lack of drainage and the necessity for auto rickshaws to navigate the waterlogged roads, with drivers charging Rs 10 for crossing the flooded streets.
