Kerala: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the districts of Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Malappuram in Kerala, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall expected over the next 24 hours. An orange alert has been issued for Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta, while Alappuzha, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram remain under a yellow alert. The IMD forecast predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-11 cm to 12-20 cm in 24 hours), with isolated areas experiencing extremely heavy rainfall (>20 cm), from June 14 to June 17, 2025. On June 18, similar rainfall is expected in some regions, including isolated places across Kerala. Rainfall is also forecasted for Lakshadweep on June 14 and 15, with similar intensity.
The southwest monsoon has resumed activity after a pause of nearly two weeks, causing heavy rains in several parts of Karnataka early Thursday. The IMD has issued a seven-day warning predicting widespread rainfall across nearly all districts of Karnataka until June 17. Torrential rains in Hubballi, Dharwad district, led to significant waterlogging, especially in Hanashi village. The forecast indicates continued widespread rainfall in coastal and northern Karnataka until June 17, with “fairly widespread” rains in southern interior districts until June 14, before turning into widespread rains over the following days. In coastal Karnataka, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, with sustained winds of 30-40 kmph, likely causing very heavy rain in some areas, particularly over Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi districts.
