Iran President Ebrahim Raisi dies: PM Modi condoles, says ‘contribution will be remembered’

New Delhi: After the demise of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi in the helicopter crash along with all onboard, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consoled the death of Raisi.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared condolences for the family and people of Iran.

Saying that India stands with Iran in this time of sorrow, PM Modi said, “Deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic demise of Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. His contribution to strengthening India-Iran bilateral relationship will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Iran. India stands with Iran in this time of sorrow.”

In a tragic development, all passengers of a Helicopter crash including Iran President Ebrahim Raisi have been declared dead. The Helicopter crashed near a mountainous region on Sunday night.

The information has been shared by state news agency. The reports said, President Raeisi, along with foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, East Azarbaijan Gov. Malek Rahmati, East Azarbaijan Imam of Friday Prayer Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, & several other passengers have died in the crash.

Ebrahim Raisi was an Iranian conservative politician and cleric. He was on the post of Iran’s President since August 2021. Born on December 14, 1960, in Mashhad, Iran, Raisi has had a long career within the Iranian judicial system and is a prominent figure within the country’s political landscape

Who will be the Next President?

Following the demise of Iran President, discussions are going about the new President of country. In Iran, if the president passes away during their term, then as per the Article 131 of the constitution the first vice president, assumes the charge for time being. Currently Mohammad Mokhber is Vice President of country which means he will become the interim President of Iran. Furthermore, a council composed of the first vice president, the parliamentary speaker, and the judiciary head must oversee the arrangement of a new presidential election within a maximum period of 50 days.

As per the information, A Bell 212 helicopter carrying Iran’s president and foreign minister crashed on Sunday. As per the Iranian state media, the chopper flew through mountains in heavy fog.
