Jammu and Kashmir: Temperature drop as Srinagar receives fresh spell of rain

Srinagar: The Kashmir Valley has experienced a drop in temperature following recent rainfall, resulting in a colder winter atmosphere, with temperatures recorded at five degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall in the Jammu region and Himachal Pradesh, along with potential hail in Punjab.

Tourists in the valley are feeling the effects of the changing weather, with many enjoying the snowfall in popular spots like Gulmarg. Tourist Akshay from Mumbai shared his experience, stating, “It’s quite cold now. Compared to yesterday’s clearer weather, today started with rain, making it even chillier. We were fortunate to witness snowfall in Gulmarg, which was amazing. We spent two days there, and the snowfall on February 26-27 was breathtaking. We had a great time riding on Dal Lake and staying in a houseboat, enjoying the food and the experience, whether it was in the rain or snow. February has ended, and with March beginning, the weather should be more pleasant now. This is a wonderful time to visit compared to the last three months.”

Another tourist, Anvita from Vadodara, Gujarat, remarked, “It’s very cold. We’re wearing four layers of clothes, and it’s still chilly. However, the weather is enjoyable. We had a fantastic time staying in a houseboat and riding Shikara all day. The local homemade food was also delicious.” She added, “I checked the weather forecast, and there’s a chance of snowfall between the 6th and 13th. If it occurs, it would be wonderful, and I encourage everyone to come.”

With winter tourism flourishing in Kashmir, visitors are taking full advantage of their stay, enjoying boat rides, local cuisine, and sightseeing.
