Justice Siddaiah Rachaiah appointed permanent judge in Karnataka HC

Justice Siddaiah Rachaiah has been appointed as a permanent judge of the Karnataka High Court, with the Centre notifying the decision on October 24, following a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud.

The Union Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification stating that, as per Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President has appointed Justice Rachaiah as a permanent judge effective from the date he takes office. The Supreme Court Collegium had previously recommended his appointment last week.

Earlier in August, the Karnataka High Court Collegium unanimously endorsed Justice Rachaiah for the permanent position. The Supreme Court Collegium mentioned that it consulted judges familiar with Karnataka High Court matters as part of its procedure. A two-judge committee from the Supreme Court also evaluated Justice Rachaiah’s judgments.

After reviewing all relevant materials—including inputs from the sole consulteeing judge and assessments from the Judgment Assessment Committee—the SC Collegium deemed Justice Rachaiah suitable for permanent judgeship, prompting the appointment to fill an existing vacancy.
